The Technique

Structural Integration,  Structural Integration is designed to  help people address the restriction within their physical body as opposed to just treating symptoms. Utilizing safe and effective hands on techniques this work distracts the nervous system enough to allow the brain to reset the amount of tone, tightness or hypertonicity within the connective tissue.  Much of current medical intervention or therapy only focuses on where the person is feeling the pain or restriction. That pain you're feeling?  It might not have anything to do with where you're feeling it and treating the symptom out of context of how that part of you gets support is only symptom relief. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. This specialized way of addressing the body works in a series of sessions to address how all of the body’s parts are connected and related to each other to create a systemic shift towards more vitality and freedom of movement.

Movement Coaching I'll help you support and maintain the real structural changes that happen in the bodywork.  You will learn better algorithms for movement, to improve how you do what you already love.  Much of the stress and dysfunction that a person is experiencing is actually a result of the story the brain and nervous system have created about what they think is effective and functional movement verses what is biomechanically ideal.  Changing that story translates into less visits to healthcare practitioners, a better relationship to your own body, and more freedom of movement. 

Dialogue  For many clients, part of this work has to do with unraveling beliefs about how you have to hold yourself or traumatic imprints that no longer support you or that are effecting your posture and alignment.  The posturing we adopt to survive overwhelming threat is not how most of us want to live our everyday lives.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your first appointment will be a 30-45 minute visit, subsequent sessions are 75 minutes.  At your intake visit I will take an extensive history, listening to your description of what you are experiencing, and ask what your goals are for the work. Together we will create a plan of how to address your concerns through our work together.  This visit is free of charge.  

After your complimentary intake we will begin your series.  Each session involves bodywork to begin to address your primary concern and movement education that will help you find more ease in your daily life, whatever you do. Treatments are completed on a massage table, sitting at a bench or in various yoga-like postures that support your ability to unwind deep set postural or movement patterns. While I'm happy to customize the work to any number of sessions, the basic Hellerwork Series consists of 11 sessions and is a comprehensive transformational process that can support most people to make dramatic changes to the way they think feel and move. Most people prefer to come once a week, although scheduling is flexible.
